StarStruck's Artistic Director Jennifer Jones took to the stage in not one, but six plays at Palm Beach Drama Works' Young Playwrights 10-Minute Play Festival, this past February 26th.
Palm Beach Drama Works is renown for their first-class provocative and timeless productions, as well as being a leader in arts education. The goal of The Young Playwrights Festival is to introduce the joy of writing for the live theatre to young people, and to give teens a creative voice in expressing their thoughts and ideas. Students are encouraged to write about subjects that are meaningful to them. Aspiring student playwrights submit their works to a panel of professional playwrights and theater practitioners. If selected, their play is assigned a professional director and actors who will work together with the writer to revise and strengthen their plays before presenting on the Palm Beach Drama Works stage. In addition to premiering their work, the plays are published and the student playwrights are awarded a $250 prize!
This was an incredible opportunity to nurture young talent and as a passionate arts educator, Jennifer is thrilled to support this program. Last year, she had the honor of judging this festival. This year, things took a surprising turn when she was asked to take on a different role, as an actor! No stranger to the stage, Ms. Jen was excited to put on her "actor hat" and perform alongside the other gifted actors to bring these new works to life. Ms. Jennifer performed in 6 out of 10 of the evening's performances, each as a stage reading where actors carry their scripts.
This FREE event was a wonderful opportunity for StarStruck families to experience a different aspect of live theater and see Jennifer in a different role - well, six!
